Mid-Century Manhattan

23 Apr

I am completely smitten with these photos of Don Draper’s apartment! If that name isn’t familiar to you then it might be because you don’t watch the show Mad Men. But no shame from me, I’m like the only person I know that doesn’t watch it, either. I just stumbled across these set photos and can’t stop thinking about them! The fact that I am moving soon coupled with my interior design background just makes me want to curl up in this apartment and call it home! The mint doors, circle rug, striped hanging light, sunken living room, perfect L couch, and funky spice rack are just a few of my favorite details. Do you have any favorite design elements from the 60′s?

I’m gonna be completely honest here. I think the only thing I like about that era are the pistachio/mint colored kitchen appliances.

i would prefer a different color scheme (definitely some florals, too!) than this but the silhouettes of major furniture pieces from this decade are some of my favorites. like i don’t really like a lot of the chairs, but i love almost any couch, table, or larger piece i see from this decade.

I’m with you… I think it’s just great fun to see it all put together just as it was then. I’m a collector of mid-century modern and NOT all of this appeals to me but I do love the clean, smooth lines (and the firmness) of the sofas and that credenza in the dining room is to die for. (well, to live for.. cause I’d love to be alive to enjoy it!) Fun to see the pictures. Love the era. Your blog is so full of life! You have many wonderful talents. Enjoyed looking through!

Yes! I feel like even if the aesthetic isn’t everyone’s taste, there are still certain pleasing elements across the board! ps. i checked out your blog and omg— the credenza you won at the auction is so stunning, congrats!

As I was looking at the photography, before I read your post, I was thinking, “That looks straight out of Mad Men” and it was! You should watch it! It’s one of our favorites, although this set doesn’t come around until season five. It’s a big contrast to his home from the first four seasons….By the way, I nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award :) http://thisbountifulbackyard.com/2012/04/25/versatile-blogger-award/

I heard that this set was new but I couldn’t compare it to anything since I am not familiar with the show! It seems a lot of people get caught up in the character’s wardrobes but i think all of the sets are equally as neat to look at. And WOW— thank you SO much for that! I am so glad you found my blog since it’s made it so easy for me to peruse yours =]
